
Dr. Yiannis Papadatos
Dr. Yiannis Papadatos is an Associate Professor of Prehistoric Aegean at the Department of History and Archaeology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he has been a faculty member since 2008. He studied Archaeology and History of Art at the same Department (1994) an received his PhD (1999) in Prehistoric Archaeology from the University of Sheffield, UK. Papadatos has been adjunct faculty at the Hellenic Open University and has also worked as a contract archaeologist for the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Ephorate of Antiquities of Lasithi (Crete).
Papadatos’ major research interests include Minoan Crete, the Cyclades and the Aegean littoral in prehistory, with a special emphasis on mortuary practices and ancient technology. He is the Director of two excavation projects in Crete, the Minoan mansion at Gaidourophas and the Minoan peak sanctuary at Stavromenos, at Anatoli, Ierapetra. He is also the Director of the departmental excavation at Plasi in the area of ancient Marathon. He has published two monographs, three edited volumes and more than 40 research papers in peer reviewed journals, while he has also edited volumes and proceedings of international conferences.
