
Dr. Dimitrios Moschos
Dr. Dimitrios Moschos studied Theology at the Department of Theology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens/Greece (BA, 1982) and Byzantine Studies at the Ludwig-Maximilian-University of Munich/Germany (MA, 1994). In 1996 he was named PH.D. by the Theological Faculty of Athens University and 2007 DOCTOR HABILITATUS (Post-doctorate Degree) in Church History by the Theological Faculty of University of Rostock/Germany.
Moschos is Associate Professor in Church History at the Department of Theology of Athens University, and teaches as adjunct professor (Privatdozent) at the Theological Faculty of Rostock University/Germany.
His research interests focus on the interrelation between Christianity and broader religious and intellectual currents like asceticism or Greek philosophy seen in the light of social history mainly during the ancient and medieval period.
Moschos’ main monographs include “The philosophical background of the Nicephoros Gregoras' opposition to Hesychasm” [in Greek], Athens 1997, and “Eschatology in Egyptian Monasticism. The
Role of Christian Eschatological Models of Thought in the History of Early Egyptian Monasticism and Its Social Function” [in German], Tübingen 2010, publ. by Mohr-Siebeck. He has also published numerous scholarly articles and books in Greek, English, German, French and Italian language.
